The territory of Upper Town began developing as early as the 12th century. Over time, it became the political, religious, and cultural center of Minsk.
Starting from the 16th century, noble families and wealthy magnates built their residences here. Churches, monasteries, and prayer houses of different religious communities appeared throughout the district, creating an unique multicultural atmosphere.
Today, Upper Town preserves the spirit of old Minsk and remains one of the most important historical areas in Belarus.
